Exley, R. (2004). Witness the passion: Discover the hope, embrace the power, experience the grace. Lakeland, FL: White Stone Books.
Exley (who was my pastor for seven years in Tulsa) has written a captivating book looking at the passion of Jesus Christ through the eyes of the eyewitnesses. These include Judas Iscariot, Pontius Pilate, Barabbas, Simon the Cyrene, the criminal on the cross, the commander at the crucifixion, Mary, Mary Magdalene, Thomas, Simon Peter, and God the Father. Exley grounds each account in scripture, but then goes beyond the scripture to imagine the emotions experienced by each of these eyewitnesses. The result is a powerful group of stories. Following each story, Exley draws life applications.
I read several of these two one of my adult classes around the Easter season. These stories were well received as devotionals, and obviously had a strong influence on the class members, as they generated extensive discussion.
