I found much to think about in the book Jesus on Leadership: Discovering the Secrets of Servant Leadership, by C. Gene Wilkes. Several concepts in this book have provided food for thought. Wilkes writes about "learning to wait" for God to put you in the correct position of leadership. I've found that it's dangerous to try to get ahead of God—it's best to do things His way and in His time. Wilkes also emphasizes the need to take risks to fulfill the mission of an individual or an organization. In a risk-averse culture, I find that it is important to be reminded periodically of the need to take risks. Wilkes also stresses the necessity of servant leadership, and of developing a team. He uses examples from the life of Jesus to illustrate each of these concepts, providing an insightful view into Christian leadership.
