My life's mission comes from Ephesians 4:11b-13 (NIV), which states that Christ gave "some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." In all I do, whether administratively, in my teaching for Mount Vernon Nazarene University, in my church, or in my family, my mission is to help people to maximize their effectiveness in being who God has called them to be.

For me, serving as an administrator and as a professor is a ministry. As a dean, I have the opportunity to help create the best education possible for our students and to help develop faculty members into excellent teachers and professionals.  In my teaching, along with other faculty members at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, we are training missionaries—individuals who will take the light of Christ's love into the mission field of corporations and organizations, and who will have the opportunity to minister in places where professional ministers cannot gain an entrance or a hearing. As an accreditor, I had the opportunity of helping all kinds of educational institutions to pursue excellence in educating business students.

In my church-related activities, my teaching and leadership gifts are used to bring spiritual growth in others. God has used me to minister to all ages, from young children to senior citizens.

My foremost mission, however, is to be a godly husband and to see my daughters grow up to be godly women. If I fail in my role as a father and as the spiritual leader of my household, then all other accomplishments become meaningless.
